Etrian Odyssey X Gets Western Release Date as Etrian Odyssey Nexus
Early Wednesday morning, Atlus announced that the next installment in their dungeon crawling RPG series, Etrian Odyssey, titled Etrian Odyssey Nexus will be coming to west on February 5 on Nintendo 3DS.
Released as Etrian Odyssey X in Japan, Etrian Odyssey Nexus will continue the series’ dungeon crawling lineage by putting the player back in control of a group of explorers as they make their way through countless maps. At this point, Etrian Odyssey Nexus has nineteen playable classes with many fan favorites returning.
In Etrian Odyssey Nexus, players will create a party of explorers. These party members’ skills will differ, which allows the player to create the perfect party to fit their playstyle.
The last Etrian Odyssey title to come west was Etrian Odyssey V: Beyond the Myth on 3DS in 2017. The title brought back many of the previous titles’ development team to create a classic Etrian Odyssey experience.

[UPDATE]
Atlus has released new details for the story of Etrian Odyssey Nexus. During the story, players will meet Princess Persephone who has asked for the greatest explorers to head into the floating city of Maginia. The mission is to uncover the “mysteries of the archipelago of Lemuria, home to a great Yggdrasil Tree”.
Players will be able to choose up to 19 different classes including the new “Hero” class which is a frontline offense/defense character.
Atlus details the game’s main features:
- The Definitive Etrian Odyssey Experience – With more classes, characters, gameplay systems, and labyrinths than any other game in the series, Etrian Odyssey Nexus is the ultimate dungeon-crawling adventure.
- Customize Your Perfect Exploration Party – Create and customize characters from 19 playable classes, then take on the dangerous creatures of Lemuria’s labyrinths with your perfect party!
- Both Newcomers and Veterans Welcome! – With the ability to swap between four distinct difficulty settings, auto-mapping settings, and a grand standalone story, there’s something for everyone from series newcomers to experienced veterans.
- A Love Letter to Etrian – Longtime series mainstays Yuji Himukai (Character Designer), Shin Nagasawa (Monster Designer), and Yuzo Koshiro (Composer) have come together to create the preeminent Etrian experience for the series’ final installment on the Nintendo 3DS.

Author’s take: At this time, not much has been revealed about Etrian Odyssey Nexus so it’s tough to form an opinion. The Etrian series is now known for its storytelling, but more for its ability to allow the player to create the perfect party of explorers and dominate in often difficult dungeon environments. I’m sure we’ll know more when the game releases in Japan on August 2.
