Etrian Odyssey Reveals 16th Anniversary Staff Messages

Atlus has shared three new messages to Etrian Odyssey fans to celebrate the franchise’s 16th anniversary and to hype up prospective players for the upcoming original trilogy re-releasing later this year as Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection.

We have written out these three messages from their originating images in their entirety, quoted below:

“Time flies, and it’s been 16 years since the Etrian Odyssey for Nintendo DS was released. I’m much obliged to Atlus and the fans for keeping the series going this long. I never thought the music of this series would be one of my masterpieces.

Who would have ever believed the game music with FM sound revived after 2000, when DVD-Audio and sampling sound had already been mainstream and would be approved? In hindsight, the First Director Niinou’s decision was a good call. He asked me to make music nostalgic and chose the impressive tone we shouldn’t forget in the video game history. The FM sound definitley helped the EO series music to become distinctive and timeless. I hope many more people of the younger generation hear the music and realize how the retro-style FM sound is still incredible and why it stands the test of the time.”

– Yuzo Koshiro (Music Composer)

“Etrian Odyssey was always a title that pays homage and respect to classic tabletop RPGs, 3D dungeon RPGs, and gamebooks, which many of us devoted our youths to. There’s a timeless appeal to imagining your own adventure, and it’d be the greatest honor of mine if these remastered Etrian Odyssey games evoke that feeling for you, as we celebrate 16 years since the release of the first game!”

-Yuji Himuaki (Character Designer)

“Thanks to you all, the Etrian Odyssey series is celebrating its 16th anniversary. We are very excited to be able to revive these first three titles as the Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection, and we hope that longtime fans and newcomers alike will enjoy these remastered games on modern platforms.

Thank you again for your continued support!”

-The Etrian Odyssey Development Team

Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection will be available on PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch on June 1, 2023.
