Earth Defense Force 5 Reveals Pre-order Bonuses and Promises 2018 Release in the West

D3 Publisher has provided an update on the western release of the Sandlot developed kaiju versus humans action game Earth Defense Force 5, coming to PlayStation 4.

Evidently, the game is available for digital pre-order via the PlayStation 4 PSN. The developer has also revealed two editions for players, which includes digital bonuses.

Standard Edition $59.99:

• Pure Decoy Launcher 16 variations set – A special decoy which will dance and sing in the battlefield.
• Volcanic Cracker – You can get the Wing Diver weapon and start using it from the beginning and you may only receive this weapon by pre-ordering the game.
• Powered Exoskeleton Nix: Gold Coat – A commander machine shining with gold which boarding is admitted only by an early recruit.

Deluxe Edition $89.99:

• Standard Edition Pre-Order Bonuses
• Deluxe Edition Bonus Content 1: EDF5 Theme
• Deluxe Edition Bonus Content 2: Decoy Launcher [Pale Wing]
• Deluxe Edition Bonus Content 3: Star Burst
• 12 variations of additional weapons and support arms that will boost the power of each of the ground troops
• Two mission packs – Available post launch contains:
• Additional mission 1: EXTRA Challenge
• Additional mission 2: SUPER Challenge

The only exclusive inclusions in the deluxe edition will be the aforementioned Bonus Content. As for the other items, it seems as though they will be offered through a Season Pass or paid DLC.

Earth Defense Force 5 keeps true to many of the systems introduced over the series’ lifetime including featuring the four soldier types that were shown in Earth Defense Force 2025, Ranger, Wing Diver, Air Raider, and Fencer. However, a new system allows players to unlock armor and weapon upgrades to take down enemy kaiju more easily.

Earth Defense Force 5 puts players up against hordes of creatures ranging from giant ants and spiders to full blown keiju type monsters destroying the city. Players must travel around the city with a group of military officer and fight back against the invading threat.

Earth Defense Force 5 is planned to release in the west in 2018, but a solid release date has yet to be announced.

Author’s take: Earth Defense Force has always been mindless fun and that has not escaped the series as seen in their newest installment, Earth Defense Force 5. However, that’s a fairly high price point for the release, I think a $49.99 standard edition price sounds far more attractive.
