Idea Factory International provided new details about their upcoming JRPG Dragon Star Varnir, coming to PlayStation 4 in summer 2019.
The details introduce players to the characters and boss battles that they will meet throughout the game’s story. The three characters introduced are:
- Karikaro – A no-nonsense witch who has a ditzy side. It’s often difficult to tell if she’s acting out of logic or haste. She is afraid death is quickly approaching due to her passing the average age of the elder witches. She loves to cook, but her unique cooking style can produce… interesting results.
- Laponette – She’s graceful but always looks melancholic. She holds the magical power of clairvoyance and can see the sad future of those she touches so she hates her power. She does not want to be involved with people that she does not trust. She is especially intimidated by men.
- Charlotta – A mysterious witch who claims to be a terrible witch of legend. According to her, she is the one behind the massacre known as the Carnival of Death in which she took the lives of 100 witches a decade ago.
Each of the character’s design has been created by the artist from the other Compile Heart titles which make this collaborative effort within the company.
Also detailed are the Dragon Cores. During battles, players will be able to eat a dragon using the Devour Skill. Once the dragon is eaten the power of the dragon becomes available to the player and opens up a skill tree that grand new skills and bonuses. There are 126 possible Dragon Core combinations in the game that each has a success rate percentage at the time of devouring. The chances of getting a powerful core rely on how weak the enemy is and using different party members.
Boss battles were also detailed which take on multiple layers of the battlefield. Players will need to choose different spots on the bosses to attack in order to knock it out and cause some real damage.
