At Tokyo Game Show 2025, Square Enix confirmed that Dragon Quest VII Reimagined will not include every scenario or feature seen in earlier versions of the game, instead aiming for a more concise and streamlined playtime.
Producer Takeshi Ichikawa explained that the development team collaborated closely with series creator Yuji Horii to remove content that was less relevant to the main story, aiming to enhance pacing and emphasize narrative depth.
As a result, three scenarios, Krage/Grondal, Litorud/El Ciclo, and Probina/Providence, will not appear in the remake. In addition, several side activities, including the Casino, Monster Park, World Ranking, and Immigrant Town, have been removed.
However, the team promised new content to balance these omissions. Among the additions is a scenario that explores the childhood of the protagonist and Maribel. A new Colosseum Arena will also be introduced, too. Meanwhile, the Lucky Panel minigame will return in a reworked form, redesigned to differ from both the PlayStation original and the 3DS remake.

Originally released on PlayStation before later being reintroduced on Nintendo 3DS, Dragon Quest VII is one of the most expansive entries in the series. The reimagined version introduces a handcrafted 3D aesthetic inspired by real-world diorama models.
The story remains faithful to the original while receiving adjustments to pacing, along with additional optional side quests and minigames. Players will once again piece together fragments to unlock islands and explore new areas.
Combat has been overhauled with new mechanics. A revamped vocation system now allows characters to “Moonlight” by using two vocations at once. Other improvements include a redesigned UI and various quality-of-life features designed to streamline the lengthy RPG.
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined will be released on February 5, 2026, for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.
