Square Enix has unveiled a new post-launch video for Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, detailing the making of this title.
Producer Takeshi Ichikawa, Director Masato Yagi, and Scenario Writer Sayaka Takagi discuss the themes and strengths of this entry, as well as how to match the bright character redesigns to the dark setting. The specifics of the character writing, narrative restructuring, and gameplay additions are also detailed.
Originally released on PlayStation before later being reintroduced on Nintendo 3DS, Dragon Quest VII is one of the most expansive entries in the series. The reimagined version introduces a handcrafted 3D aesthetic inspired by real-world diorama models.
The story remains faithful to the original while receiving pacing adjustments, along with optional side quests and minigames. Players will once again piece together fragments to unlock islands and explore new areas.
Combat has been overhauled with new mechanics. A revamped vocation system now allows characters to Moonlight by using two vocations at once. Other improvements include a redesigned UI and various quality-of-life features designed to streamline the lengthy RPG.
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined is available worldwide on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.
