Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince Reveals Western Box Art; Same as Japan

Square Enix recently updated the official website for their upcoming turn-based JRPG Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, revealing the Western box art. And it’s thankfully the same as the Japanese version unveiled last month, sans the logo. This is pretty neat since, like in the case of Valkyrie Elysium, the Japanese and Western box illustrations can occasionally differ.

The protagonist, Psaro, is seen sitting atop a throne like other Square Enix characters, such as Sora from Kingdom Hearts and Jack Garland from Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin. Additionally, by Psaro’s side are his companions throughout his vengeance-filled quest: Rose, Toilen Trubble, and Fizzy.

Those who pre-order Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince will receive the following supplemental bonuses:

  • Head Start Set
  • Scholar’s Specs x1
  • Stardust Earrings x1
  • Bonus Ball x5

Further, those who purchase the game’s Digital Deluxe edition will receive the following bonus content:

  • The Mole Hole (Includes the ‘Gothic Vestment’ outfit)
  • Coach Joe’s Dungeon Gym (Includes the ‘Cake-Maker’s Clobber’ outfit)
  • Treasure Trunks (Includes the ‘Monstrous Mail’ outfit)
  • Burgundy Gothic Vestment
  • Warrior’s Ring x1
  • Beastie Bites x10

In Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince, the demihuman protagonist Psaro was cursed by the ruler of the monster realm of Nadiria, also known as his father, making the youth incapable of harming any being with monster blood coursing through their veins.

To defy his fate, Psaro becomes a monster wrangler, amassing a sizeable monster following during his quest for vengeance. Additionally, he’ll make new allies, including the elf Rose and the enigmatic Toilen Trubble.

Combat will consist of eight party members, with four being active and another four being in reserves. Further, you can manually control your monsters’ actions every turn or set predetermined tactics to let the AI decide, like ‘Show No Mercy’ or ‘Focus on Healing.’

In battle, monsters can enter a frenzied state born from desperation in dire scenarios, enabling greater damage output and additional chances to perform an action. Players can also look forward to monster fusion and several season-based environments to traverse, each with their own creatures.
