Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons Gets July Release Date on PC and Consoles; Trailer Highlights New Gameplay

Modus Games announced that the Secret Base-developed beat-em-up Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons will launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam on July 27, 2023.

To celebrate, the team put out a new trailer highlighting gameplay. The game leans more into the colorful side of beat-em-ups as the characters are depicted as chibi versions of themselves. Still, this isn’t too far off from the original concept. The game takes place on the streets of New York City, so you know it’s going to be tough.

During gameplay, players will fight through several stages and bosses, with the option to unlock bonuses and turn on features such as permadeath. However, there’s also a way to adjust the difficulty and play with a friend through local co-op. Online play is planned for a future update. If the developer was trying to deliver an authentic Double Dragon experience, you can’t get much more authentic than local co-op.
