Directive 8020 Brings Back Supermassive’s Movie Night Couch Co-Op in New Live-Action Trailer

Supermassive Games revealed a new live-action trailer for Directive 8020 during today’s Future Games Show, highlighting the return of the studio’s Movie Night Mode. The upcoming sci-fi survival horror entry in The Dark Pictures Anthology launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam on May 12, 2026.

The trailer focuses on the game’s couch co-op setup. It shows a group of friends passing a controller while the story unfolds, cutting between their reactions and tense in-game scenes featuring quick-time events, narrative decisions, and encounters with alien mimics aboard the colony ship Cassiopeia.

Movie Night Mode supports up to five local players. Each participant controls a different crew member as the narrative shifts between characters. The format keeps the cinematic structure the series is known for while turning major decisions and reaction moments into a shared experience. A mistake during a quick-time event or a poor choice during a tense conversation can determine who survives the mission.

At launch, Directive 8020 includes single-player and offline couch co-op. Supermassive plans to add a five-player online multiplayer mode in a free post-launch update. That version mirrors the couch setup, allowing groups to experience the story together remotely.

The game also introduces a new feature called Turning Points. As the story progresses, a visual branching tree records key decisions and outcomes. Players can revisit specific moments to try alternate choices or retry difficult quick-time events. The feature gives players a clearer look at how the narrative branches across the campaign.

Turning Points also changes how group sessions play out. In Movie Night Mode, players can debate whether to accept a character’s death or return to an earlier moment to attempt a different outcome. For groups that prefer permanent consequences, Survival Mode disables rewinds and locks in every decision.

Directive 8020 launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam on May 12, 2026, with single-player and up to five-player couch co-op available at release.
