During Summer Game Fest Play Days 2025, we had the opportunity to speak with Ryosuke Hara, producer of Digimon Story: Time Stranger. As the interview wrapped up, the conversation turned to a title that’s still fresh in the minds of Digimon fans: Digimon Survive. When asked about the possibility of a sequel with a question that mentioned fan interest, Hara-san’s response was brief but telling: “They need to be louder because we want to.”
The comment suggests that while the development team is open to revisiting Survive, community demand will likely be the key factor in pushing it forward. It’s not a confirmation, but it does show that internal interest exists, at least on Hara-san’s end.
Looking Back at Digimon Survive
Released in 2022 after multiple delays, Digimon Survive blended visual novel storytelling with tactical RPG elements, offering a darker tone compared to other entries in the series. Players followed Takuma Momozuka and his classmates after they’re mysteriously transported during a school trip. The narrative weaves together themes of friendship, survival, and difficult moral decisions, all tied to how players interact with the world and their Digimon companions.
The game stood out with its branching storylines and evolution mechanics influenced by player choices, as well as a slower, more deliberate approach to tactical battles. Despite some criticism around pacing, the title found a passionate fanbase appreciative of its emotional weight and experimental format.
Hara-san’s comment indicates there’s no immediate plan in place, but it’s a nudge to the community: if a sequel to Digimon Survive is something fans want, the time to make noise is now. In case you missed it, check out our review of Digimon Survive.
