Digimon Survive Gets New Details During Video Interview With Producers
Bandai Namco released a new video developer diary for their upcoming strategy RPG Digimon Survive, coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
The video is hosted by Digimon Survive producer Kazumasa Habu and assistant producer Katsuaki Tsuzuki where the two speak about their time working on the project, and their vision for this new entry in the Digimon series and their approach to delivering the best game possible. Coming from working on titles like Digimon World and Digimon Fusion, the producers acknowledge how important the world of Digimon is to the fans.
Digimon Survive will focus heavily on the story of the characters and their relationship with their Digimon. The team’s approach to this new title will be very Japanese and will utilize this generation’s hardware as much as possible in a blend of 2D illustration with 3D environments. During battles, Digimon will be able to Digivolve right on the maps and the battle flow of the matches will be as fluid as possible while retaining the strategic mechanics of taking advantage of enemy weaknesses.
Digimon Survive will feature dramatic story sections where players will be able to learn more about the characters and the world, much like a visual novel. However, additional gameplay elements have been added to feature large scale battles between Digital Monsters. These battles take place on a grid field resembling strategic gameplay features such as Final Fantasy Tactics and XCOM.
