Digimon Survive Has Been Delayed, But Most of Us Are Just Happy It’s Still Alive
Bandai Namco announced that Digimon Survive has been officially delayed to 2022 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC-via Steam. The game’s delay was previously mentioned in TOEI Animation’s Financial report.
In the message, producer Habu Kazumasa shares that “due to the need to allocate more time to development, it is necessary to move the game’s release date to 2022.” He follows up with, “While this decision hasn’t been an easy one, we want to make sure we use this extra time to enhance the quality of the game.”
Additionally, the Japanese version of the announcement shares further information, with Kazumasa-san sharing, “While our original plan was to release Digimon Survive in 2021, development time will take longer than usual, due to the amount of changes that will need to be made to the game’s content. We apologize for the continuous delays of information regarding Digimon Survive due to the confusion of the development status, and we are grateful for the concern of our fans who are eagerly awaiting this title.”
This may confirm that the game has undergone some changes from the last time we saw it.
I think at this point, we’re just happy the game has survived over the years and is still in active development.
Digimon Survive will focus heavily on the story of the characters and their relationship with their Digimon. The team’s approach to this new title will be very Japanese and will utilize this generation’s hardware as much as possible in a blend of 2D illustration with 3D environments. During battles, Digimon will be able to Digivolve right on the maps. The matches’ battle flow will be as fluid as possible while retaining the strategic mechanics of taking advantage of enemy weaknesses.
Digimon Survive will feature dramatic story sections where players learn more about the characters and the world, much like a visual novel. In addition, however, additional gameplay elements have been added to feature large-scale battles between Digital Monsters.
