Bandai Namco has announced that Digimon Survive will have a livestream during the Anime Expo 2022 event. The transmission will air on July 2 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM PT and it’ll feature producer Habu Kazumasa talking about the upcoming “text adventure meets strategy RPG” game, including fan-submitted questions. Not only that, but the event will feature a live giveaway and a demo will be available on the show floor.
With about one hour to the event, it’s likely that Habu will try to cover many topics that explain what Digimon Survive is for people who have only heard of it. As such, it’s likely to rethread some of the info we already know about the game from previous announcements and Digimon Con, though fans are likely hoping for some more concrete content such as a new trailer and details on unexplained aspects of the gameplay.
It’ll be possible to watch the event through Bandai Namco’s official channels on YouTube or Twitch and it’ll likely be best to subscribe to their channels to get notified when the event is close to starting. Fans who are eager to know more about Digimon Survive can send their questions through this form. Besides asking about Digimon Survive, there’s a slot for questions on the franchise’s games in general.
Digimon Survive is a game that combines text adventure with strategy RPG, giving off a strong Devil Survivor vibe. It tells the story of a group of kids who end up in another world during their summer break. As they face a variety of perils, it’ll be up to the player to choose their own path leading the branching narrative towards the routes of Morality (vaccine), Harmony (data), Fury (virus) or a myterious fourth route that unlocks on New Game+.
Battles revolve around using your limited SP to command the creatures with specific moves and evolutions. While each main human character has their own partner, it’ll also be possible to recruit new allies during battles. Another aspect of note is that the evolutionary branches you unlock during gameplay will also suffer some influence of your choices, such as having Agumon become Tyrannomon rather than Greymon.
After four years since its original announcement and changing developers from Witchcraft to HYDE, Digimon Survive is set to release in the west on July 29, 2022. It’ll be possible to play it on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
Though Digimon Survive is the next game in the series, we already know Habu is planning and working on the Next Digimon Story. While fans of the Cyber Sleuth duology may be disappointed to know the upcoming RPG will not be connected to those, it’s expected to feature the real Digital World and cover the special lore of the Olympos XII. These details were confirmed at Digimon Con but we still don’t know much about the Next Digimon Story.
We also know that, while Habu is eager to give older Digimon titles a new chance, it’s not currently in their plans. They have evaluated making something with the original, classic Digimon World, but according to his talk during Digimon Con, they have yet to pinpoint if a port, remaster or remake would be adequate due to budget limitations and limited market expectation.
With all that said, this new livestream may be a great way to look into what the future has in store for the franchise. Hopefully it will be enough to give us a clear look into Digimon Survive.
