Persona & SMT-Inspired Tactics RPG ‘Demonschool’ Announced for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch & Steam; 2023 Release
During the latest PC Gaming Show, developer Necrosoft Games and publisher Ysbryd Games showcased their upcoming school-life tactics RPG inspired by Persona, Shin Megami Tensei, and Italian horror cinema, Demonschool. Players follow protagonist Faye, a freshman of a “prestigious” university hiding apparent supernatural secrets. As the last living heir to a long-forgotten family of demon hunters, Faye and her new friends find themselves investigating daemons, summoning rituals, and other bizarre occurrences.
Combat takes place on a grid, with rewindable decisions and other mechanics that make this tactical experience swifter than the expected conventions of the genre. There are also social life aspects where players can bond with select characters, study specific subjects, and even form romantic relationships. Several endings will also be available.
The Italian horror cinema presentation inspiration arises from ‘60s and ‘70s movies “drenched in strange visuals and hellish grotesquery driven by a funky bassline that renders even the most horrific scenario irreverent.”
Brandon Sheffield, creative director of Necrosoft Games, shared the following statement regarding this upcoming title:
“We wanted to create a game with complete transparency while still allowing for mystery. You’ll never have to guess at numbers or what does what. We hope the story carries you through to a positive vision for the future, and what is possible when like-minded individuals work together against a larger evil.”
Demonschool is releasing for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam, and Steam Deck in 2023.
