Square Enix Developed Mobile Game ‘Deep Insanity Asylum’ Announces End of Service for Late October

This morning, Square Enix announced that their Deep Insanity ASYLUM mobile game will shut down its service on October 31, 2022. Currently, players cannot purchase the White Assassin Stone currency, and any unused paid currency is eligible for a refund after October 31, 2022.

The game, released last year on October 14, 2021, for mobile devices and PC via Steam (with the latter being restricted to Japan-only), barely made it to the 1st Anniversary celebration.

According to the Steam page of the title (which requires a Japanese VPN to view), the game’s story scenario was written by Makoto Fukami (known for his work in Psycho-Pass and Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka) and Norimitsu Kaihō (known for his work in School-Live! and the Japanese-only Shi Mo Mata Shi Suru Mono Nareba.).

Given the fact that I never heard of this game and also looking up its screenshots, I can sort of imagine the reason as to why Square Enix decided to pull the plug, but that’s just speculation on my part.

I’ve translated the complete End of Service notice, which you can view below:

Thank you for playing Deep Insanity ASYLUM.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Deep Insanity ASYLUM will be terminating its service October 31, 2022. We have been working hard every day to provide better service ever since the release on October 14, 2021. However, we have come to the conclusion that it will be difficult and unfeasible to provide a service that satisfies all players.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all players for their continued patronage thus far and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by this announcement. In-game events will continue to be updated until the service ends. We hope you will continue to enjoy Deep Insanity ASYLUM for a short period of time until the server’s shut down.

As of right now, White Assassin Stones can no longer be purchased. Any purchased White Assassin Stones that have not been used are eligible for a refund once the service shuts down (in accordance with Japanese laws).
