Danganronpa Creator Might Return to the Series When People Start to Forget It
Recently, the creator of the Danganronpa series and the upcoming Master Detective Archives: Rain Code, Kazutaka Kodaka, was interviewed by entertainment outlet Twinfinite regarding the possibility of returning to the former franchise.
The following three quotes capture Koadaka’s mentality on the matter:
“I wanted to make a new IP, and Spike Chunsoft wasn’t pushing for a Danganronpa sequel, so I decided to go with it. To be honest, if ask Spike Chunsoft whether I should make a new Danganronpa title, they might say yes, so I didn’t ask (Laughs).”
“It’s not like I don’t want to make another Danganronpa game, but I have a lot of ideas and want to create something new. Someday I may go back, maybe. Danganronpa is more of a niche game, and now I’m working on a bigger one, but it’d be cool to go back to Danganronpa at some point afterward.”
“I’m not really interested in doing the same thing other people may be doing. I’d rather not pick the safe option. When people start to forget about Danganronpa, perhaps I’ll be more inclined to work on it again.”
In essence, Kodaka is open to returning to Danganronpa, but he is currently in the state of yearning to make entirely new content, hence Master Detective Archives: Rain Code. That last quote, in particular, is worth chewing on. Though, I honestly doubt anyone will ever forget Danganronpa.
Master Detective Archives: Rain Code is a new project by the Danganronpa team where one experiences a 3D detective adventure set in a neon city. The title is currently scheduled to release for Nintendo Switch in Spring 2023.
Players will control an amnesiac detective who is followed by a Shinigami and solve cases by examining crime scenes and evidence. The Shinigami will create a realm connecting the crime scene to the truth. Mystery Phantoms will try to impede your progress, and defeating them by utilizing the truth is the only way to go.
