Curse of the Sea Rats centers on four brave heroes who are turned into rats by the evil magic of Flora Burn, a pirate witch. The heroic rats must overcome diabolic creatures and brutal bosses under the witch’s command to return to their human bodies. The title’s setting is based on the Irish coast of 1777 and boasts a hand-drawn art style reminiscent of golden era Disney and Don Bluth.
The game is of the Metroidvania genre, which demands players to traverse a large, open, non-linear world. The campaign is stated to last for around 12 years with multiple quests to complete endings to unlock. Local 4 player cooperative play will also be available upon release.
Petoons Studio is an independent studio known for their work on Petoons Party, winner of PlayStation Awards Best Kids Game of 2017. That title is currently available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
