Crunchyroll announced that they will launch Hime’s Quest for Game Boy Color following its initial launch in 1999. Pre-orders are currently available until December 23, 2022, via Crunchyroll and Limited Run Games, with differently colored packages per site. To elaborate, the Crunchyroll store’s cartridge is orange, while the Limited Run store’s cartridge is blue. Additionally, the game will be free-to-play and download on supported browsers at an unknown date next month.
Terry Li, Senior Vice President of Emerging Business, Crunchyroll, shared the following statement regarding this announcement:
“Crunchyroll wanted to capture the nostalgia of 90s pop-culture, a shared touchstone for anime fans, and we are thrilled to transport Crunchyroll-Hime to that era in an adventure developed on fan-favorite hardware from that time. Hime is our beloved princess mascot, and we are excited to see her lore expanded in ways that speak to fans’ love for anime and gaming with Hime’s Quest.”
Throughout this title, players control Crunchyroll-Hime as she saves the anime club from Y2K in 1999 from a malevolent force causing severe technological destruction throughout New Crunchy City. Players will explore several environments, including deserts and forests while experiencing hack-and-slash combat. Further, the chiptune soundtrack is composed by Protodome.
