Activation announced they will publish the Toys for Bob-developed adventure-platformer Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 2.
Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is not a remastered game of any entries in the series, this is a brand new Crash adventure. The developer is revealing their take on the art style of Crash to reintroduce players to the over-the-top personality of the character. The game’s story picks up after New Cortex, Dr. N. Tropy, and Uka Uka have been stranded on a distant planet for decades. The villainous group finally make it back, but end up ripping the space-time continuum in the process.
“Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time stands on the shoulders of the core precision gameplay we all fell in love with in the ‘90s,” said Paul Yan, Co-Studio Head at Toys for Bob. “This epic new adventure spans space and time, introducing new ways to platform that both long-time fans and new players alike will enjoy mastering. Get ready to fall in love with the mutant marsupials all over again!”
During gameplay, players will uncover four Quantum Masks, who are the guardians of space and time. These masks will grant Crash the ability to bend the rules of time and access to areas. The first masks to be revealed are the Time Mast, which slows everything down and the Gravity Mast, which allows Crash to platform upside down.
“Our teams have delivered two awesome remastered Crash Bandicoot experiences and the community passion for the series continues to be incredible. Now it is time to turn the page and give players something entirely new,” said Rob Kostich, President at Activision. “Loyal fans have been patiently waiting to see the journey continue for their favorite marsupial, and we’re giving players the completely new experience they deserve with Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time.”
Strangely, no Switch version was announced at this time.
