Caffeinated Beat ‘Em Up ‘Coffee Crisis’ Launches on Switch This Month

Ever dreamed of being a kickass barista, like that one cool-looking barista at your local coffee shop that makes the best cups of coffee you’ve ever had the pleasure of drinking? Soon, you’ll have the chance to step into the shoes of the baristas on Earth with enough heavy metal in their veins to fend off an alien assault.

Coffee Crisis, a dangerously caffeinated, arcade-style beat ’em up developed by Mega Cat Studios, is brawling its way to the Nintendo Switch on November 30 for $9.99. Get ready to enjoy a damn fine cup of coffee (Twin Peaks reference), headbang to heavy metal jams, and knock the beans out of an onslaught of aliens.

In Coffee Crisis, the Smurglian race has come to Earth and they’re not leaving until they steal our three most prized commodities: heavy metal, free Wi-Fi, and coffee. They launch their invasion from a coffee shop and spread their assault by possessing all the local grannies, bros, and even country singers. Unfortunately for the aliens, their ground zero is also the heaviest, most-metal coffee shop on the planet, and home to Earth’s most unlikely defense: Nick and Ashley, two baristas ready to brawl.

You’ll have the power to choose to play solo at home, on the go, or maybe at your local coffee shop for a fully immersive experience — or buddy up with a friend or even a real-life barista. With 10 unique locations — ranging from your Coffee House HQ to the far reaches of outer space — there’s going to be a latte (coffee pun for “a lot of”) enemies to beat up. With a variety of weapons like Martian lava swords and severed alien limbs, special moves, suplexes, and coffee though, you’ll be brewing up some serious damage.

For a more intense roast of beat ‘em up action, there’ll be a “Death Metal Mode”, which includes random modifiers that can completely mix up Coffee Crisis. In the mode, there will be over 100 mods that can either help you out (get extra health, deal extra damage), hurt you (encounter elite enemies and massive enemy spawns), or crank up your headbanging needs (gnarly guitar riffs, coffee, and blood rain from the sky). Streamers can also take advantage of the custom Twitch & Mixer integrations that allow viewers to vote on what kind of mod the streamer will get.

Coffee Crisis is coming to the Switch with the help of games developer and publisher, Qubic Games. Get a taste of cosmic coffee carnage by checking out the Coffee Crisis Nintendo Switch gameplay trailer below.

Author’s Take: Since I love coffee (a little too much) and old-school beat ‘em up arcade classics like The Simpsons, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Final Fight, I’m hyped for Coffee Crisis on the Switch.
