Guillaume Broche, one of the creators of the beloved modern turn-based RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, was recently featured in a video by the YouTube channel Konbini.
Throughout the lengthy, over-an-hour video, Broche discussed the games that inspired him. Besides the expected foundational titles, such as Breath of the Wild, Journey, Devil May Cry, and Lost Odyssey, there were some standout inclusions like Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and Kingdom Hearts II.
Broche describes Kingdom Hearts II as a truly exceptional title and one of his top five favorite games of all time. He even considers it one of the best action RPGs ever created, emphasizing the late-game depth. In contrast, he didn’t find Kingdom Hearts III quite as good; for him, it couldn’t recapture what Kingdom Hearts II brought to the table.
He didn’t share any comments about the Final Mix inclusions, the Kingdom Hearts III Re Mind DLC, or the non-numbered games.
In another part of the video, Broche revealed that Tales of Vesperia is his favorite Tales of game, praising its art direction and exceptional gameplay that reminds him of late-game Devil May Cry. Judith’s intricate combos are explicitly mentioned. It’s even one of the games he has beaten the most, having done so six or seven times.
You can view the exact clip of Kingdom Hearts II being mentioned below. Thanks to @KHMLTomorrow for sharing this news.
