Children of Zodiarcs is an Impressive Card-Based Tactical RPG That Just Launched on Switch

Cardboard Utopia has launched their card-based tactical RPG, Children of Zodiarcs on Nintendo Switch-via the Switch eShop for $17.99.

For those who don’t know about Children of Zodiarcs, it was released on Steam and PS4 in 2017. The game follows a group of thieves who are in search of a relic. On one of their outings, they end up falling into a trap. This forces them to escape and leave their lives behind as they search out more information about these relics.

The story focuses on the group of characters as you learn more about their situation and what brought them to the position that they are in now. They each have a reason for being on this adventure, which seems to get more and more complicated, with every discovery.

What’s interesting about the game is the tactical turn-based combat. Players can create decks of cards for each character, which requires them to adjust their actions as they draw cards each turn. Once the card is chosen, then players roll the dice to determine modifiers on the attack, defense, heal, and special abilities. Players can even customize the dice as well as re-roll two each throw.

Children of Zodiarcs is a love letter to turn-based RPGs, but the developer really tries some exciting stuff here by blending deck-building game elements. It works surprisingly well too. After loving it on PC, I can easily recommend the Switch version to those who want to play this game on the go.

Currently, the game is also on sale on Steam.
