Smilegate has released a major new update for its free-to-play roguelike deck-builder Chaos Zero Nightmare, marking the game’s half-anniversary with the “ARISE” update. The company also confirmed it will attend Anime Expo in Los Angeles this July, where both Chaos Zero Nightmare and Miresi: The Invisible Future will be featured.
The “ARISE” update introduces several new systems and changes aimed at expanding the game’s core structure. A new Sortie Mode reworks the roguelike loop by removing save data entirely, pushing players into run-based progression with evolving routes, shifting party setups, and decisions influenced by a “Fate” system. This mode differs from existing Chaos content by focusing on higher-risk runs without long-term safety nets.
Several system-wide adjustments have also been implemented. These include a Battle Skip option for Chaos content, changes to reduce repetition, and updates to how rewards are distributed over time. The update also removes seasonal limitations tied to The Great Rift Save Data Mitigation, allowing players to carry over and modify past builds across different seasons.
Season 3, titled “A Song Rippling Through the Stars,” adds a new story arc set aboard the SS Edenity. The update includes additional Chaos content, new Divine Epiphany cards, and a completed version of the Persona Cards system. A new seasonal character, Heidemarie, joins the roster with a “Link” mechanic that chains card effects between allies.
The Spiral Tower of Screams mode is now fully available, offering a tower-based challenge alongside half-anniversary rewards. Players can earn items such as a 5-Star Combatant or Partner Selection Ticket and up to 70 free Rescues as part of the event.
Outside the game, Smilegate will attend Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles for the first time. The booth will feature both Chaos Zero Nightmare and Miresi: The Invisible Future, with activities including giveaways, cosplay events, and a playable demo for Miresi.
Chaos Zero Nightmare is available on PC via STOVE and mobile via the App Store and Google Play Store.
