ChainStaff Hard Mode Update Adds New Enemy Behaviors, Boss Changes; Soundtrack Volume 1 Released

Developer Mommy’s Best Games has released a free Hard Mode update for ChainStaff, adding new enemy behaviors, revised level sections, and expanded boss encounters.

The update arrives alongside the game’s largest Steam discount, with ChainStaff available at 20% off through June 8.

Hard Mode introduces new attacks for enemies throughout all ten stages. Flying enemies now fire spread shots, while rolling worm enemies can stack together to create larger obstacles. Boss encounters have also been updated with additional attack patterns that require different strategies.

Several levels have received newly designed Hard Mode sections as well. These areas include more demanding traversal challenges and additional enemy encounters. Existing upgrade locations and soldier placements remain unchanged.

Players who have already completed the game can jump into Hard Mode through a New Game+ option, carrying their previously earned equipment into the new difficulty setting. It’s also possible to start Hard Mode from the beginning with no upgrades.

Director Nathan Fouts said the following:

A lot of players were asking for a tougher version of ChainStaff since they’ve already beaten the game on Normal mode. I designed the Hard mode update to be tough, interesting, and shake up when you know about the game. And I don’t like “bullet sponge” updates for a “hard mode” where is just the same enemies with more health. That’s not the case in ChainStaff, enemies go down the same as before, but they attack in new ways!

In addition to the new content update, ChainStaff Official Soundtrack Volume 1 has been released. The soundtrack, which contains 28 tracks from the game, is now available on major music streaming platforms.

ChainStaff is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
