Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions Gameplay Overview Trailer Highlights Various Systems

Bandai Namco released a new trailer for the Tamsoft-developed over-the-top soccer title, Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions, coming to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC-via Steam on August 28.

The trailer walks viewers through a few of the gameplay systems that make this soccer game a bit more over-the-top than other titles out there. For one, the game’s anime aesthetic allows the team to take advantage of some really cool power moves that display the characters in action scenes as they attempt to make a goal. Although this series hasn’t really made a mark in North America, it is fairly popular in Brazil, so it’s going to be interesting to see how the game does in the west.

Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions is based on the works of series creator, Yoichi Takahashi, and follows Tsubasa Ozora as he steps up as the leader of his soccer team and brings them to glory. The game introduces players to soccer with an anime twist as players are able to execute a variety of powerful offensive and defensive moves during matches against rival teams.

Captain Tsubasa: Rise of New Champions will feature Japanese voice-over with text support for English, Neutral-Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese. The last console game to release for the series was in 2010 on DS with Captain Tsubasa: Gekito no Kiseki, but the game hasn’t received a numbered entry since Captain Tsubasa 5: Hasha no Shōgō Campione, which released in 1994 from developer Tecmo.
