Limited Run Games and Atari have announced the Bubsy in: The Purrfect Collection, which will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in 2025.
This collection is a “playable history” that includes games, artifacts, and interviews about the Bubsy franchise. Additionally, each title has been updated using the Carbon Engine, with some rough edges of the titles being smoothed out.
Audi Sorlie of Limited Run Games is at the helm of the project, who is apparently an expert on the Bubsy franchise. The included titles weren’t explicitly stated, but screenshots have shown the infamous Bubsy 3D, so that’s pretty exciting.
Is Bubsy a celebrated icon from the mascot wars of the early 90s or a platforming punchline? The team at Limited Run has built a new collection to find the answer. Bubsy in: The Purrfect Collection explores the franchise’s troubled history and enduring popularity.
The Carbon Engine is a development tool used to port legacy content to modern platforms, using emulation as a base. Features like “UI, rendering, audio, data management, controller inputs, and console-specific SDK features like trophies are then built upon it.”
