This update, titled the Companion Update, actually is the largest content drop since the mobile game’s launch, as it brings even more customization and progression to the battlefield.
Added to the game are new recruitable Companion units, each of whom are bonded to a unique Mercenary. Furthermore, when these units grow in power and their appearance is changed based on their level, their lore and backstory will also become available for players to experience in all of their glory. Utilizing the accompanying Fate system, players also have the option to obtain the initial Companion for each Mercenary without utilizing Scrolls or Diamonds.
Via a press release, Sean Kim, game director for Brown Dust, shared how the Companion system was created due to the mass number of Mercenaries in the game:
“One of Brown Dust’s biggest strengths is in its huge cast of interesting Mercenaries. Our goal with the Companion system is to take that even further by giving players new ways to improve their Mercenaries and take the strength of their armies to all new heights. Even lesser used Mercenaries will receive Companions, affecting their formation viability, as well as initiating a shift to the overall meta for our Captains to master.”
In addition, Neowiz has listened to player feedback and are increasing the pull rates for Mercenaries and Companions with an ever-increasing amount of Mercenaries and Companions being added regularly. Chance-Up Banners will now guarantee a ★5 Companion following a predetermined number of attempts.
Last but certainly not least, during the months of July and August, players completing Event Missions can exchange collected materials for up to three Companions, as well as receive log-in rewards, including a free ★5 Mercenary. Also, beginning July 18, in order to mark Brown Dust’s 500th day launch anniversary, players on any server can log-in to receive a ★5 Random Mercenary, Diamonds, and more.
A special 500th Day Package, granting a ★5 Skill Book, Premium Scrolls, Honor Points, Red Slimes, and more, will be available in the Diamond store from July 17-30th.
Brown Dust is out now for iOS and Android. We happened to enjoy the game quite a bit, giving it a 9 out of 10 in our review. With a new update out in the wild, now is probably a perfect time for us to jump right back into Brown Dust once again.
