505 Games and developer ArtPlay have delayed their metroidvania Bloodstained: The Scarlet Engagement from its previously planned 2026 release window to 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
Producer Koji Igarashi shared the development update alongside a new collection of screenshots. Development has entered its final stages, and the additional time will be used to continue work ahead of the new 2027 launch window.
ArtPlay also plans to show more of the game over the coming months. Gameplay footage is expected in a future update.
Set in the 16th century, The Scarlet Engagement introduces players to the Ethereal Castle, a demonic fortress guarded by the Sanguinaries, six vampire lieutenants serving the mysterious Demon Lord Elias.
Players will control Leonard, a Black Wolves apprentice, and Alexander, the last surviving knight of the White Stags. For the first time in the series, players will control both protagonists. One character is player-controlled while the other assists in combat, with the ability to swap between them in real-time. This dual-character system plays a central role in combat strategy and puzzle-solving, with special skills and tactics tied to cooperative play.
