Battlefield V Reveals Free “Live Service” Roadmap Removing Paid “Premium Pass”

DICE revealed the first look at the free live service available to the player of their first-person shooter Battlefield V, coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 20.

Titled “Tides of War”, this new service will encompass the free event that players will get to participate in as well as getting new maps, story missions, and additional modes.

  • Chapter 1: Overture (coming 2 weeks after launch) – Includes the new map Panzerstorm and The Last Tiger War Story
  • Chapter 2: Lightning Strikes (January – March) – Rush mode returns; Combined Arms launches
  • Chapter 3: Trial by Fire (March) – Firestorm, Battlefield’s Battle Royale mode launches; Greece map added

The developer announces that they will not support a premium pass features that usually allowed players to pay an extra sum of money to unlock all future DLC released to the game. This approach to game design could be a direct response to fans unapologetic distaste for the season pass.

Additionally, in a blog post from the developer, they’ve outlined that they’ll continue to support the world of Battlefield V with game updates and even new weapons and vehicles. Additionally, they’ve expanded on each aforementioned chapter.

In case you missed it, the developer recently released a new trailer focusing on a single player mode of the game called War Stories.

Author’s take: You know, it’s possible that removing the season pass could eventually raise the base price of games in the future. We can’t expect to pay $60 forever, can we?
