Devolver Digital and developer Kenny Sun have announced that their action pinball roguelite, BALL x PIT, will receive The Shadow Update on April 27, 2026.
Players can anticipate The Tunneler as a new character whose balls wrap around the screen, and The Tiptoer whose stealth enables her to shoot balls from any angle possible. There will also be new passives, balls, and a new building.
Set in the ruins of the fallen city Ballbylon, the game sends players into a treacherous pit filled with hostile creatures and bizarre obstacles in search of lost treasure. Armed with magic-infused projectiles and increasingly bizarre weaponry, players must carve through the depths while building up New Ballbylon from scratch.
Over 60 randomized ball types can be combined for hundreds of potential effects. As players gain experience, they’ll develop new spitball combinations and unlock powerful abilities with the help of recruited heroes.
Outside of combat, players can construct and upgrade over 70 buildings to gain new power-ups, characters, and resources. Automated heroes back at base help sustain progress. Each biome introduces new environmental challenges, enemies, and massive boss encounters.
Players will also encounter a variety of recruitable treasure hunters along the way, each bringing unique mechanics that significantly alter gameplay styles. Customization and adaptability are central to success, both in surviving the pit and rebuilding civilization above it.
BALL x PIT is available on mobile, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Game Pass, and PC via Steam.
