Gunvolt Series Has “Come to a Close for Now,” Says Inti Creates CEO
The CEO of developer Inti Creates, Takuya Aizu, has published a celebratory tweet for the company’s 27th anniversary, emphasizing his gratitude to the countless individuals who have made their titles possible.
He specifically states the following:
“Today, May 8th, marks the founding day of Inti Creates. We have been around for 27 years. We are grateful for the support of our staff, who work together to create wonderful games, as well as the actors, individual producers, production companies, and above all, our fans! Thank you, everyone!”
However, one of his replies on this tweet thread shared some startling news regarding one of Inti Creates’ most well-known franchises, Gunvolt. In response to a fan stating how they’re looking forward to new Gunvolt projects in the future, Aizu stated the following:
“Thank you very much! I’m glad that you have been playing since Mega Man Zero. The Gunvolt series has come to a close for now, but I think it’s time to start thinking about future developments. Although it is not Gunvolt, please look forward to our completely new project!”
TL Note: The word used here is 一段落, which means “to reach a stopping place, to settle down (before the next stage).” This does not necessarily imply that the Gunvolt series has ceased entirely; it only means that he will be moving on from it for the time being.
There has been some confusion surrounding this statement since many are taking this as confirmation that the Gunvolt series is over entirely, which may not exactly be the case. Admittedly, the latest entry, Azure Striker Gunvolt 3, was met with mixed reception from various fans, so it’s only natural that many yearn for a stronger follow-up. Regardless, I’m looking forward to whatever future projects Inti Creates has been cooking up.
Thanks to our team’s Ryuji for translating the relevant tweets on this subject matter.
Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 introduces a new character, Kirin, who utilizes quick sword and throwing abilities in combat. She can destroy enemies instantly using her “Arc Chain” ability and fast movement. She can also deflect projectiles using her sword. Furthermore, Gonvolt will also be playable and brings his own twist on his classic playstyle.
A new feature called Image Pulse is usable by Gunvolt, which allows him to summon comrades and drives from the past for a special attack. There are over 150 different Pulses that can be collected.
Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 is also available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC via Steam, Xbox One, and Series X|S.
