Atelier Sophie 2’s Story Will Be More Mature With Sophie Expressing a Range of Emotions Including Anger

The Atelier series is full of slice-of-life adventures. The characters are known for large-scale adventures with friends and plenty of synthesis systems to dive into. However, developer Gust has recently highlighted the range of emotions these characters can have by featuring some relatively heavy topics in the narrative.

When it comes to Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream we had the chance to talk about the narrative with series producer Junzo Hosoi. In the first title, Sophie could always be found within arm’s length of her friend Plachta. However, in this entry, Plachta is lost, and the two are separated.

We asked Hosoi-san if we will be able to explore more of Sophie’s personality in this new entry, to which he replied, “Sophie’s friend Plachta is both her alchemy teacher and her family. As she has to part ways with Plachta, the player will get to see her experience a wide variety of different emotions. Look forward to seeing many of these emotions from her for the first time, as Sophie becomes angry, brought to tears and panicked throughout the story.”

This is a huge leap from what we know about Sophie up to this point. Players eager to know more about the game, can check out our preview of this first 2 hours of gameplay.

We will share more information from our interview soon.

Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream is coming to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC-via Steam on February 25, 2022.
