Atelier Sophie 2 Reveals Two New Characters and Gameplay Details

Koei Tecmo released new details highlighting characters and gameplay details for the Gust-developed JRPG Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream.

During Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream, players will assume the role of Sophie Neuenmuller as she searches for her friend, Plachta, in the world of Erde Wiege. She ends up meeting a young alchemist named Plachta, but she isn’t her Plachta. On their search, they come across a water dragon who attacks the group, but Ramizel and the knight Diebold appear to lend a hand.

Each area of Erde Wiege has pre-determined weather, but thanks to the discovery of the Dreamscape Stones scattered across the land, Sophie and her friends are able to change the weather to help them progress on their journey. Using a Dreamscape Stone to change the weather can drastically change the environment – such as lowering the water level of a once flooded location – as well as uncovering new gathering spots with a wealth of unique materials.

When exploring these new locations, players might also discover Major Gathering Spots – spots that allow them to obtain better materials than those found in traditional gathering spots. If the correct gathering tool is equipped when arriving at a Major Gathering Spot, a mini-game will start, and the quality and number of materials gathered will increase according to their results. These mini-games include a fishing rod-style game where a certain number of fish must be caught and a slingshot game where players have to shatter various targets within the time limit.

Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream continues the adventure of Sophie and Plachta who have traveled on many new adventures. After leaving Sophie’s hometown of Kirchen Bell, the two stumble across a tree that Plachta has seen in her dream. Upon inspection, they are pulled into a vortex, and Sophie wakes up in a world called Erde Widege, and here’s someone calling for Plachta, however, it’s not her friend Plachta, but a young alchemist with the same name. I’m sure you can see where this is going.

Further, NISA America will host a limited edition that includes, an art book, deluxe fabric poster, keychain, bonus BGM CD, and an exclusive DLC costume all packaged into a beautiful collector’s box.

Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream is coming to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC-via Steam on February 25, 2022.
