Publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Gust shared details on the updated synthesis systems for the next Atelier title to come west, Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout, coming to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on October 29.
First up, Atelier Ryza will feature a completely revamped synthesis interface that’ll clearly display all the materials and effects that can be added to items — so there’ll be no need to mix together things randomly. This handy dandy system is called ‘Linkage Synthesis’ and will feature a fixed number of cells that players can unlock via strategic item placement. Furthermore, with this system, special change recipe cells can also be uncovered to unlock various recipes, allowing alchemists to try out mixing and matching different items to discover new results.
Then there’ll be the new ‘Item Rebuild’ process that allows for these created items to be used again during synthesis. Rebuilding an item offers the chance to make it stronger than it was originally built — basically, if you keep on rebuilding an item over and over again, it’ll become far more superior each time. That said, rebuilding an item will also cause the amount of dexterity required to increase, so some characters may not have the dexterity to use that particular, buffed-up item. Because of this, choosing between item strength and ease of use is going to be a decision that players will have to make when planning battle strategies.
For those that aren’t aware, Atelier Ryza tells the story of a new character in the Atelier series, Ryzalin (or ‘Ryza’, for short), a typical everyday girl who has become bored with her mundane lifestyle. After meeting someone special, she discovers alchemy and her whole life changes. She then sets out on an adventure that she never thought she’d go on.
Thanks to a whole new batch of screenshots (check them out below), you can have the chance to meet some of the characters that Ryza will meet along her journey including: close childhood friends, Lent and Tao; the courageous merchant’s daughter, Klaudia; the protector of Rasenboden Village, Agatha; the mysterious wandering alchemist, Empel; the cool and composed wandering warrior, Lila; and the young spirit, Kilo.
