Earlier today, Alan Wake developer Remedy released a behind-the-scenes video showcasing the thought behind Alan Wake 2 and why now was a perfect time to release it. Creative Director Sam Lake details how, with the rising popularity of horror fiction both in video games and movies, this was the perfect chance to develop the sequel to Alan Wake. While the story had been worked on for thirteen years, something would always get in the way.
There are various issues with development, not always to the fault of the developer, that can lead to a game not being produced. Sam Lake had been trying to get Alan Wake 2 made for years with various problems during the pre-production phase that eventually led to the project’s cancellation each time.
However, instead of dropping the idea, he kept working on it and prototyping a newer and better version of Alan Wake 2 until we had what was revealed during the game awards. This has led to a polished concept, and this version of the game is what Remedy is proud of.
