Recently, Japanese outlet Dengeki interviewed AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative’s creator and scenario writer, Kotaro Uchikoshi, and the director, Akira Okada.
Several facets of the game are discussed to varying lengths, including specific characters, development trivia, and more. Our team’s Ryuji and series fan @somniumfiIes translated the following notable points from the interview.
Interviewer: Are you going to add a route with Hitomi right now? If you want, we can make this an online-only story…!
Uchikoshi: Hmm…there are many people, especially those overseas, who are interested in knowing more about the relationship between Hitomi and Date. If the opportunity presents itself…
Interviewer: Can we have high expectations for the third game now?
Okada: Personally, I’m very excited to develop a third game. The number of [Ai the Somnium Files fans] has been steadily increasing both overseas and in Japan. It’s this support that allows us to stay motivated and continue to bring new titles. I hope to meet everyone’s expectations.
Interviewer: What about you, Uchikoshi-san?
Okada: I concur with Akira. I would like to extend my gratitude to everyone who played AI! If you continue to support us, then maybe you’ll meet Kagami once again!
It’s encouraging to hear such excitement for an upcoming third game and the potential for a story revolving around Hitomi and Date. Additionally, our team’s Ryuji translated the following exchange regarding decisions about the protagonists during development:
Interviewer: Why did you decide to change the main protagonists?
Uchikoshi: The double protagonist idea was there from the beginning, and the first character I chose was Mizuki, a very popular character from the first game.
The second character I wanted to put, however, was Date, but after talking with Kodaka, he said, “while I’m not opposed to Mizuki being the first one, don’t you think making Date the second one would make [AI Nirvana] only appeal to those that played the first game”?
Which in the interest of broadening the fan base and not making the game too unwelcoming for [those who have not played the AI The Somnium Files before], I came up with Ryuki, a brand-new original character.
AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative is currently available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative shows an event where the right half of a corpse was discovered, but the left half was never found until six years later. However, the body has shown no signs of decay, as though it’s only a day old. New special agent Mizuki and her AI partner Aiba are tasked to solve the Half Body serial killings. Kotaro Uchikoshi is confirmed to be the Scenario Writer.
