AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative Director Wants to Question Geoff Keighley About The Title’s Lack of Presence at Game Awards 2022

In an article by Japanese outlet 4Gamer comprising end-of-the-year comments from numerous developers, Akira Okada, the director for AI: The Somnium Files, commented on his yearning to question the creator and main host of the annual Game Awards, Geoff Keighley, over how Nirvana Initiative wasn’t even nominated for the Best Narrative category. His comment is as follows:

4Gamer: What are your ambitions for 2023, and what is your message to 4Gamer readers?

Okada: We’ve released our latest title, AI: Somnium Files – nirvana Initiative! And thanks to everyone’s support, it has been exceptionally well received. However, as a director and fan myself, I would like to question Mr. Geoff Keighley as to why [Nirvana Initiative] wasn’t nominated for Best Narrative at the Game Awards this year! Do me a favor, Geoff!

Currently, I’m hard at work on a brand-new title, and I feel that it will be a rather risky one with fresh new experiences. It’s still going to take a while until we can make an official announcement, but stay tuned for the future! Power!!!

For those unaware, the nominees for the 2022 Game Awards on Best Narrative were A Plague Tale: Requiem, Elden Ring, God of War Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, and Immortality, so I can sort of see why he would be unhappy about the nominees because the narrative in Nirvana Initiative is a wild ride that I will absolutely not forget. Now, I wonder what he means by “risky new game” because that can honestly mean anything in the scope of Spike Chunsoft.

AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative shows an event where the right half of a corpse was discovered, but the left half was never found until six years later. However, the body has shown no signs of decay, as though it’s only a day old. New special agent Mizuki and her AI partner Aiba are tasked to solve the Half Body serial killings. Kotaro Uchikoshi is confirmed to be the Scenario Writer. Hardcore fans can pre-order the game’s Collector’s Edition, which has a bunch of goodies.

AI: The Somnium Files – nirvanA Initiative is currently available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
