Publisher Atari and developer Ilex Games have released a new post-launch update for their 2D metroidvania Adventure of Samsara.
The highlight of the update is a new optional boss encounter called the Buzz Killer Swarm, a multi-target fight against three cybernetic insects.
Alongside this addition, there are now new secret rooms, hidden paths, invisible walls, and upgrade locations. Combat and movement have also been reworked, with players now able to more easily dash to avoid attacks and use healing items mid-fight.
The update introduces a new Bestiary system as well, allowing players to view detailed entries for enemies they’ve encountered, including visuals and descriptions. Several bosses and enemies have also been rebalanced, with changes to difficulty, AI behavior, and attack patterns for encounters like Athalos, Dhar’klaw, and Doctor Gwar’udum.
Quality-of-life improvements are also live, including full input remapping on PC, clearer map labeling when discovering new areas, and an option to replay cutscenes from the main menu.
Ethan Stearns, VP of Games at Atari, said the following:
Since the game’s release last year, we have believed that Adventure of Samsara is a unique experience with timeless gameplay, a rich narrative and was a world worth championing.
Since then, Atari and Ilex Games have listened to the community and worked together to bring even more content to players. We can’t wait for all Metroidvania fans to dive back into this great adventure!
Adventure of Samsara is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam and GOG.
