Adol & Carja in Ys X Nordics Have More of a Familial Bond, Rather than Romantic, Says Falcom President

In the latest issue of Famitsu magazine, the president of Nihon Falcom, Toshihiro Kondo, was interviewed about the upcoming Ys X Nordics and tangentially related facets. In one exchange, he revealed that Adol and this game’s heroine, Carja Balta, don’t have much of a romantic bond. Instead, it’s more familial, differing from the previous Ys games where the main girls usually developed crushes on Adol.

You can view a translation of the question and response below via our team’s Ryuji:

Kondo: […] Furthermore, I would say that the relationship between Adol and Carja is closer to a familial bond rather than a romantic one. Carja is dignified on the outside, but deep down, she’s timid privately, which makes her a very different heroine.

Until now, many of the Ys heroines were either pure-hearted or graceful, but with Carja, I think you’ll get a very different impression this time around. The story was fleshed out with the idea that Adol, who is close to her, would come to know and experience her hardships.

Ys X Nordics will occur between Ys II and Memories of Celceta, making it the new third canonical entry in Adol Christin’s adventure logs. The gameplay has undergone a significant shakeup, with there only being two playable characters this time around.

Special maneuvers can be unlocked via story scenes and exploration, allowing for environmental interaction. Further, in solo mode, the character you’re not controlling performs actions judged by their own discretion. Adol will be controlling a ship for combat and island hopping, too.

Unused Ys Seven concepts are being utilized in this outing, too. Ys X Nordics will allow players considerable explorative freedom, enabling naval travel with a recruitable crew and ship combat.
