Nekki released the first trailer for the “gun-fu” action game SPINE, in development for PC and consoles.
While a release date wasn’t provided, the team did release a trailer to show off the action. Further, they provided some additional story and gameplay details that have us eagerly looking forward to learning more.
“We are thrilled to unveil SPINE and invite players to experience what we hope would be a new level in cinematic action gaming,” says Dmitry Pimenov, producer of SPINE. “From John Wick to District 13, we adore those films so much, and want to make this game an ode to our favorite movie genres.”
SPINE is a single-player, action-packed game rich in narrative, set in a cyberpunk world. Players step into the shoes of Redline, a rebellious street artist, who is joined by her sentient combat implant named Spine. Together, they embark on a quest to overthrow the authoritarian AI regime of the Tensor Corporation. The game revolves around the evolving relationship between Redline and Spine, which is crucial for enhancing Redline’s combat abilities. As the bond between them strengthens, players unlock impressive reflex enhancements and stunning combo moves for Redline. The combat choreography in “SPINE” is uniquely designed by action movie specialists, allowing players to immerse themselves in the role of a protagonist in their own action film.
SPINE distinguishes itself with its blend of cinematic gunplay, and close-combat beat ’em up action. The game’s combat system is designed to deliver a dynamic and immersive ‘gun-fu’ experience, complete with elaborate camerawork that enhances the gameplay. This approach not only pays tribute to iconic action movies but also promises to provide a cinematic adventure akin to an epic blockbuster. The narrative is gripping, delving into themes of rebellion, trust, and survival in a world dominated by AI. Players will navigate the complexities of this dystopian society while challenging the oppressive Tensor regime. Powered by Unreal Engine 5 and Nekki’s proprietary animation engine, Cascadeur, SPINE is set to push the boundaries of gaming graphics with fluid, lifelike combat animations within a meticulously crafted cyberpunk environment, promising an unparalleled gaming experience.
