The final chapter of the longest-running spinoff for the A Certain Magical Index franchise, A Certain Scientific Railgun, has now been released.
Available in Dengeki Daioh’s May 2026 issue, this launch marks a significant milestone for the series, as its most popular facet is now complete after roughly 19 years.
I’ve said this before, but I had hoped to see the series gradually intersect with more major events from A Certain Magical Index, such as the World War III arc. The Railgun manga never passed the events of Index’s first light novel run, known as Old Testament.

This spinoff series follows Mikoto Misaka, the third-ranked Level 5 Esper of Academy City, alongside her close friends, Shirai Kuroko, Saten Ruiko, and Uiharu Kazari. The group finds itself dealing with several issues plaguing the world’s Science side, as its title suggests.
Meanwhile, A Certain Scientific Mental Out continues its serialization. A fourth season of Railgun is also in the works. The latest Index light novel volume, Genesis Testament 14, was released in December 2025.
