Metroidvania ‘9 Years of Shadows’ Now Available on Switch; Launch Trailer

Freedom Games has announced that the Halberd Studios-developed action-adventure metroidvania 9 Years of Shadows is now available on Nintendo Switch, with a launch trailer commemorating the occasion. The game is also currently available on PC.

Throughout 9 Years of Shadows, the world has been sapped of color, happiness, and hope for the past nine years as a result of ancient magic. This curse originates from the abandoned orphanage of Talos Castle, and countless individuals have attempted to explore it and bring the land back to normal.

However, all have failed, with the latest adventurer being the courageous Europa. She only possesses a halberd but is determined to achieve what others have not.

Thankfully, she is joined by a magical bear named Apino, who provides healing, protection, and corruption cleansing. It can also shoot projectiles and open locked doors; indeed a valuable companion. Moreover, the castle houses elemental equipment that is instilled with unique abilities and grants opportunities for new avenues of exploration.

Guest composers Michiru Yamane (Castlevania) and Norihiko Hibino (Metal Gear Solid) are also present as NPCs, with music being at the core of this experience. Hidden bosses have musical attack patterns, and the storytelling weaves together with the soundtrack, ultimately bringing everything together. This title boasts a brilliantly vibrant and vivid art style with stunning character designs as well.
