2D Fighter ‘Melty Blood: Type Lumina’ Will Be Released Worldwide for Steam, PS4, Switch and Xbox One This September

In a new Type-Moon Times video, the company has shared some new information on the upcoming fighting game Melty Blood: Type Lumina. Besides PS4, Xbox One and Switch versions, the game will also be available on PC (Steam). The worldwide release date has also been revealed to be September 30.

Developed by French-Bread, Melty Blood is a series of 2D fighters based on the Type-Moon visual novel Tsukihime. Type Lumina will be based on the story of the Tsukihime remake which will be released in Japan this year. For that reason, the game is described as an all new battle with familiar characters.

Melty Blood: Type Lumina will include a cast of more than 10 playable characters. Six of them have already been revealed: Shiki Tohno, Arcueid Brunestud, Akiha Tohno, Ciel, Hisui and Kohaku. The later two were revealed along with the release date and can be seen in action on this new trailer:

Melty Blood: Type Lumina will include HD environments and its upgraded visuals will reflect the new version of the Tsukihime visual novel that’ll soon be available in Japan. French-Bread has also rebuilt the battle system to include multiple combos that can be pulled even by newcomers.

The idea is that the game includes Rapid Beats, which are moves that can be done by repeatedly pressing attack buttons. This seems to mean there’ll be room for some button mashing. However, the company promises that this will not impact the Melty Blood essence, allowing stylish, intense battles.

As usual for the series, there’ll be a story mode and each character will have their own story written by Kinoko Nasu. There’ll also be a Time Attack mode and a Survival mode. It’ll be possible to play against other players online or locally. The game will have rollback netcode, but it’s important to mention that it’ll be impossible to play against players who use other platforms.

Melty Blood: Type Lumina will be available in two versions: standard and deluxe. The latter includes a digital guide book with artworks and descriptions of the game’s setting as well as a sound collection with background music from the whole franchise.
