2022 Will Be a Year of “Reunions and New Encounters” For the Atelier Series; A 2D Fighting Game Spin-Off Pitch From Us Wasn’t Explicitly Turned Down
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Atelier series, and Koei Tecmo has teased six new projects are in the works, including the upcoming Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream.
We had the opportunity to ask series producer Junzo Hosoi if fans should expect this to be a year of reunions or new characters, to which he replied, “2022 is the year of both reunions as well as new encounters. The “reunion” element of Atelier Sophie 2 acts as the start of this new year, and we have a lot of new projects we are preparing for the future. Please look forward to them.”
Further, we asked if they would consider making a game that wasn’t a JRPG, and mentioned that we think a 2D fighting game would be cool. However, he seem to ignore our suggestion and added, “We are always considering what kind of genre or type of game to make the next Atelier title, such as brand new titles and side-stories like Nelke & the Legendary Alchemists. Look forward to more announcements regarding this in the future!”
We are hoping that ignoring our pitch was a sign that we were onto something. I mean, I’m sure there are legal reasons behind not wanting to humor the idea.
We will share our full interview soon. Fans eager to know more about the game, can check out our preview of this first 2 hours of gameplay.
Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream is coming to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC-via Steam on February 25, 2022.
